Market Street Catacombs

In the 1880’s miles of interconnected tunnels were built under Market Street in Indianapolis. These 20,000 square feet of brick and limestone were used to transport and preserve meat and vegetables before being brought up to the market. Even though parts of the catacombs are in ruin, other sections have been preserved, which makes it one of only dozens of catacombs sites in the US. These tunnels are open for tours every 1st and 3rd Saturday from May to October.
